Abortion in the “Bill”?

With the late Saturday night passage of the 1,990 plus page House version of the health care reform bill, it brings to a climax months of analysis, debate and opposition.  One specific provision inserted by D-Rep. Bart Stupak lends a small measure of consolation.
Formerly known as the Hyde Amendment (1976) the Stupak Amendment provides language that would prohibit federal funds from paying for abortions.  (Except in the cases of rape, incest or to protect the life of the mother.) We commend Rep. Stupak for this legitimate provision in an otherwise reprehensible legislative attack on the greatest health care system in the world.
We can only pray that this language is not insidiously removed before the Senate votes on this bill in the near future.
